The Artist

Temi Loye

Temi Loye (they/them) is a Yorùbá writer and multi-disciplinary artist based in Philly. Through film photography, collage, and block printing, they explore the inter-weavings of queerness and Black gender, what it means to (re)make one’s spirit, and how to find bodily resonance. Temi is guided by the central question: if it can become less terrifying to open up the underbelly of ourselves, how does that then allow us to open up the underbelly of the world?

Temi created Glorious Blasphemy Zine to explore how their very religious upbringing continues to inform their life. Despite leaving the church several years ago, God remained a presence in the corner of their mind, waiting patiently to be looked at. This zine is their practice of looking.

Temi’s writing has appeared or is forthcoming in several publications, including Sinister Wisdom, The Black Non-Binary Archive, and Sweet Thang Zine. Connect with them on Instagram at @unruly.sun_.
